Can I get a divorce?

You can get a divorce in England or Wales if you’ve been married for over a year and your relationship has permanently broken down. Your marriage must be legally recognised in the UK (including same-sex marriage).

Who is the service for?

You may be eligible to use this free service if you:

  • Don't have regular access to a device or the internet

  • Don't feel confident completing online forms

Fees:

For the latest information on what fees there are when applying for or responding to a divorce visit the Gov.uk website.

If you need help paying the fee:

You may be able to get help with fees if you get benefits or are on a low income.

When applying for help with fees online users are sent a reference number.  When prompted, the help with fees reference number needs to be entered in the online divorce form.

A decision is then made about the application for help with fees. Depending on what’s decided, users may be asked to pay some or all of the fee.
