1. Business Development Manager

Job type: Permanent

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Location: Friars House, Coventry / Hybrid

Reports To: Business Development Director

JOB PURPOSE

The Business Development Manager role will be responsible for the overall reporting and ownership of sales activity including:

  • Pipeline coverage
  • Bid timeline and associated resourcing
  • Market scanning
  • Lead generation support
  • Co-ordination of resources required for successful bidding
  • Liaison with 3rd party providers as required

The role will be responsible for supporting the end-to-end bid process including initial opportunity identification, ensuring effective cross-team communications. The role will compile required bid / tender documents/ presentations, coordinating activities around opportunity pursuit and submit these on the portal, ensuring full compliance with specification / commissioner requirements. The role will ensure all deadlines and timelines are adhered to by organising all parties involved.

 

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Stakeholder Management

  • Discussing business and project requirements with Clients and business
  • Developing strong internal department relationships to facilitate the optimum delivery of projects
  • Arranging, leading and participating in regular and ad-hoc meetings with internal staff and external clients
  • No team management requirements

Finance

  • Work closely with the Accounts team, to ensure the most effective use of We Are Group’s resources and that all costs are modelled as part of the bid responses

Business Development

  • Ownership of bid timetable and co-ordination of resources
  • Creating / coordinating bid specific project plans to ensure all deadlines are adhered to
  • Organising / coordinating regular bid catchups / gating meetings
  • Supporting the team to produce comprehensive, high-quality bid proposals by e.g., coordinating requests for information, sourcing the right supporting documents, supporting with editing / developing bid responses / implementation plans/ version control
  • Completing company specific responses to Selection Questionnaires or portal registrations
  • Compiling all the key bid documents / presentations needed for submission
  • Transferring bid responses into final templates
  • Coordinating the upload / submission of all bid proposals
  • Managing tender portals (e.g., monitoring communications) on behalf of We Are Group
  • Monitoring tender portals / key newsletters to identify potential bidding opportunities
  • Summarising opportunity specific requirements to inform bid/no bid gating decisions and help route qualified opportunities into the stage gating process
  • Creating / maintaining a live pipeline/opportunity tracker (outlining current/expected bids)
  • Tracking frameworks / DPS for re-bid; tracking early notifications of market engagement activities
  • Creating and maintaining a company specific bid library
  • Managing / coordinating our Bids and Tenders folder

Performance

  • Work towards individual and team targets set
  • Evaluate performance by analysing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Work with all departments to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies of systems
  • Participate in operational excellence activities
  • Previous experience in a bid/proposal coordinator / manager type role
  • Proven track record of working on bids / tenders
  • Knowledge of the bid / tender cycle
  • Exceptional organisational and time / project management skills
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Proven ability to organise and coordinate bid submissions, ensuring full compliance with commissioner/opportunity specific requirements
  • Ability to work to very tight deadlines and organise their work / excel under pressure
  • Strong communicator with good networking skills and able to build strong positive relationships with a diverse group of people both internally and externally
  • A proactive solution focussed hands on approach to overcome any problems, issues or challenges faced in the role
  • Excellent oral, written communications skills as well as supreme attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a rapidly expanding company to meet business objectives, whilst balancing autonomy and feedback to your line manager
  • Demonstrable experience of using own initiative to innovate and deliver improvements
  • Efficient in using office software packages, including Microsoft Office and bespoke CRM systems
  • A clear understanding and working knowledge of confidentiality and data privacy requirements within the workplace
  • Experience of liaising with a wide range of internal and external partners
  • Intellectual agility and ability to think on one’s feet
  • Knowledge of outsourced training delivery models

Operational Excellence

  • Work with all departments to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies of systems
  • Participate in operational excellence activities

Team Management

  • No team management requirements

Governance and Compliance

  • Responsible for following and implementing all relevant policies, procedures and processes
  • Read and accept all Company Policies on an annual basis
  • Complete all due diligence training requirements for role and renew as required
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope of the job title as advised by the line manager

Safeguarding

  • React to any disclosures, comments or behaviours that would suggest a safeguarding concern for children or adults at risk in accordance with the Company Safeguarding Policy
  • Record the safeguarding concern using the Safeguarding Report Form giving clear factual information using where possible the individuals own words
  • Report the incident to the Designated Safeguard Lead (DSL) or Designated Safeguard Officer (DSO)
  • Complete all relevant safeguarding and PREVENT training required for role and renew on annual basis
  • Carry out any other duties within the scope of the job title as advised by the line manager
