Around 1 in 5 people and almost 1 in 4 children in the UK were living in poverty in the year 2021/22 according to the [Joseph Rowntree Foundation, ](https://www.jrf.org.uk/data/overall-uk-poverty-rates#:~:text=In%202020%2F21%2C%20around%20one,living%20in%20poverty%20(27%25).)and the<https://www.jrf.org.uk/data/overall-uk-poverty-rates#:~:text=In%202020%2F21%2C%20around%20one,living%20in%20poverty%20(27%25).>prospects for the future look increasingly more worrying.

Technology could play a huge part in relieving some of the stress of the crisis by improving access to digital applications such as online banking and price comparison tools as well as providing information for budgeting and financial management.

Our [Managing Director](https://www.wearegroup.com/blog/we-are-digital-appoint-a-new-managing-director), Jonathan Prew, was joined by Sara Weller, Ren Hooi and Leigh Smyth to further discuss how we can fight the cost of living crisis by utilizing technology during a [BCS webinar ](https://www.bcs.org/events-calendar/2023/january/webinar-how-we-can-fight-the-cost-of-living-crisis-using-technology/)in January.
